What to do when you get a toothache
If you’re not able to get to the dentist in time, you may have to try some DIY relief techniques. We recommend the following home remedies for your toothache:
- Rinse and clean the area around the sore tooth using warm salt water.
- If you experience swelling, apply a cold compress to your cheek (a bag of ice wrapped in a towel, for example).
- Take acetaminophen as instructed for temporary pain relief.
- DO NOT physically apply aspirin to an aching tooth or gum. Doing this will cause the acidity of the aspirin to damage your gum.
- See a dentist as soon as possible.

If you’re not sure if the pain you are feeling is caused by a toothache, review these common toothache symptoms:

I have moderate dental anxiety and started seeing Dr. Evans at her Gainesville practice two years ago. Last year, my family and I moved out of state, but because of the quality of Dr. Evans' care, her concern for my anxiety, and her commitment to exceptional service from start to finish, I now drive six hours from North Carolina just to be seen and treated by Dr. Evans. Yeah, she's that good. read lessJessica C.27/07/16

I first started with both Dr. and Dr. Witcher, but now only see their beautiful daughter, Dr. Sally , as both Dr. and Dr. Witcher have retired. Dr. Sally is at the top of her "game" in the dental field knowledgeable on all new procedures. She is warm , humble, and effervescent. I feel "at home" in her dental group. I happen to be needle phobic and I tease Dr. Sally how "she gives the best shots" in the world!😄 She does too!! The entire staff, from beautiful Grace at the front desk, to the many dental assistants and hygienists are not only exceptional, but warm and friendly as well. I will never leave this dental office....that is how much I value their work and them personally!!Sincerely, Kelly read lessjoan t.08/11/19

Couldn't sleep for 2 nights ...aspirin and ibuprofen not enough....antibiotics not working from 1st dental office before yours that I went to...first place took Xrays and said they would not pull it for 3 weeks, "once infection was gone". Came to your office next day in sheer misery and you number and removed it. Good aftercare instructions and upgraded antibiotics helped get me out of pain. I will return to this office...thanks for your empathy with my pain!! read lessVictoria F.18/08/19
